Jake
Langley has covered a lot of ground in his relatively
short career as a recording artist, and he is quickly
taking his place as one of Canadas premier jazz
guitarists. The CBC has referred to Jake as a rising
star and a hot, young talent. The
Toronto Life says ... infectious... Langley (is)
one of the most notable Canadian musicians to come to
light in the past year."
His
new CD Non Fiction features nine original compositions
by Langley that dig deep into the roots of funk, acid
jazz, R&B and latin. He is joined by an all-star
line up of Canadian jazz talent including Dave Restivo,
George Koller, Perry White, Doug Riley and Davide Dorenzo.
Of this recording, which Langley also produced, he says,
We wanted to explore some of our funky roots,
and just have some fun. It really is a blowing
session. The tunes were written to get your toes tapping
and your head bouncing.
"Langley's
disc proves him to be well steeped in the classic sound
of organ-guitar tradition for whom swinging and bluesiness
matter most. He's a warm, grooving, flowing player."
- Ottawa Citizen
...this
is comfort jazz, warm music with strong grooves and
a light effervescence. Langley's polished lines have
their own innate sweetness. Globe and Mail
Langley
pursues hard swinging, clean, bold lines while maintaining
firm melodies...this is deeply bluesy jazz" - Toronto
