"Dr.
Music" has done it all. He is as well known in
the classical field for his writing and orchestration
in projects for Ofra Harnoy, Andrew Davis and his compositions
for the National Ballet as he is for albums he has done
with Gordon Lightfoot, Bob Seeger, Anne Murray and Ray
Charles. He has performed, written and arranged for
jazz albums by the Brecker Brothers, David Clayton Thomas
- BS&T and Moe Koffman as well as his own solo album
entitled "Freedom". Composer, arranger, orchestrator
and conductor, Doug Riley truly does it all. SeaJam
released his Con Alma album, recorded live at the Montreal
Bistro, in 1994.
"Riley
can be both funky and virtuosic at the B3; he explores
the instruments tonal range - its chirps, wails and
distortions." Mark Miller, The Globe and Mail
"This
disc's a keeper." - Geoff Chapman, The Toronto
Star
"I
first heard Doug Riley playing Hello Young Lovers with
Guido Basso on CBC radio many years ago when I was growing
up on Vancouver Island. To an aspiring musician like
myself, these guys were icons (actually they still are)
and I often dreamed of playing with them. Well, the
fates have been kind, and now I find myself experiencing
Doug's vast talent and skill on a firsthand basis.
Doug
Riley's musical abilities encompass vitually every area
of music and I have often witnessed him leap the stylistic
equivalent of tall builidings with an apparent ease
usually reserved for comic book super heroes. Doug's
warm and generous personality always shows through in
his music and has made him one of the most well-liked
and respected people in the music business.
In
addition to acknowledging (sometimes with a touch of
envy) all of his other endeavours, from boogie-woogie
piano to symphonic scores, a lot of us also happen to
think that Doug Riley is one of the most "burning"
jazz organists on the planet. Ater you hear this CD
I'm sure you will concur." -Phil
